All is a metaphor. Your life tells a story. And there is significance to your story beyond the story itself.
What if your life is an epic poem? There are words in poetry, but the poem is far greater than the words. Or your life is a many-paged novel. This or that act is committed, but the act represents something more than itself. What is the meaning beyond the meaning?
Your life is a tale being told.
Each day is a new leaf of a novel whose page you turn. There is more to reading the novel than reading its pages.
There are characters in your novel. You are the main one. You are the main character certainly in that you are the one telling it. It reveals itself according to how you see it.
You write your novel as if in invisible ink. The writing on each page disappears as soon as you turn to the next page. And all the future pages are blank until they are written on. Then you write on them and they also disappear as soon as they are filled.
Only one page can be read at a time anyway.
But the meaning stays, and the meaning progresses.
Your novel is part of a greater one. All the novels of the world are parts of one gigantic book. Yet they are not chapters one after the other, because they occur all at once. With the proper vision, one look, and you see it all. There is no synopsis to this giant book really, but it can be looked at and held in your hand, and its contents known.
This synthesized work can be read on many levels, however. You are reading it all the time. You try to figure it out. You flip through it. You open it. You close it. You ponder it. Every time you read or skim this book, it is different according to what page you are on and your skill in fathoming.
The life of man on earth is not to be analyzed, but it is to be fathomed.
Life is understandable, but not in your terms.
All the languages of the world meld into this one great book. Its content is huge. And you are on its pages. And yet you are the one reading the book and looking for the right page. And you are the one who translates the book as you go along.
What is the binding? What is the glue that keeps the pages together? Where on its pages is love found? There is not one page without it.
Perhaps touching the pages is enough.
Hold this book of life close to you.
Everyone can hold it at the same time, this magical book of life.
What a triumph it is! What drama, and what comedy, this play on the stage of life!
Think of it. It is acted out at every moment, and the lines keep changing.
But the meaning of the play is what matters. The setting will change. The actors will change. Everything will change but the meaning. Its meaning is the glory of the story. Its meaning is what you take with you, and its meaning is what you keep. At the same time as you seek it, you have it. It is locked in your DNA.
You think this book is a mystery, and not always creditable. You walk around the clues, and try to find the truth. All the while, you are the truth you seek.

Events in life occur. If only you could think that they are not personal to you. Actually, you want life to be personal to you. You want to feel blessed. You like attention, and you like to feel favored. When the sun shines, you feel blessed. When it rains, you feel annoyed. But sun and rain are both impartial to you. They are neutral. They are not thinking about you all the time.
As in a diagram, you have made yourself the center of the world, and see all arrows as pointed to you. And so you judge what enters your field.
When you trip and fall, you look to see who pushed you or what offense there was in the sidewalk to cause you to trip. But the sidewalk welcomes all feet alike. It doesn't favor some more than others. The sidewalk doesn't fuss; you do.
You are pro or you are con. Seldom are you neutral. You defend your inner and outer reactions by saying you are discerning. My dears, if you were discerning, would you let so much bother you?
What occurs is not to be the making of you any more than it is to be your undoing. God is your ballast, and you have Me regardless of all the winds that blow.
I have said it before. Do not hold on so tightly to your present way of thinking.
Better to consider that all that comes your way is a gift. Some more obvious than others. But all in the category of gift. No matter how troublesome, there is something worthy being offered you. Let that be the basis you come from. Then you will not feel so put out with the twists and turns in life.
You are independent of everything! What does anything have to do with you, except as you say? In that sense, you have the say of everything.
You are dependent upon no man, and you are dependent upon no thing. Yet you keep thinking you are at the whim of the world, and so you perceive good days and bad days.
If your plans go awry, and this bothers you, then perhaps do not make so many plans.
What exactly is this that you think you must accomplish and are devastated when you do not?
You are not the master of life. You are the master of you. What befalls may not be your choice. But after that, all is your choice.
You are free to beat your chest. You are free to pick up the pieces and go on. You are free to turn in another direction. You are as just as free to accept as you are free to deny.
Think no longer that choices must be right or they are wrong. Choices are choices. You do not know how to evaluate them. Who can say they are wrong? How would they or you know?
When you enter a new town, and you try to find your way in it, and you go down one street instead of another, what has been lost? Perhaps there could have been a shorter way to your hotel, but what was the urgency? And were there not splendid sights along the way?
You enjoy more according to the pressure you remove from yourself.
Who are you to mandate that this or that must succeed and when or how?
Just keep turning yourself in the direction of your choice but not have to get there. Maybe you don't need to get there at all. Certainly not at the precise moment you say.
Walk, don't run.

If the world did not have the prominent idea that suffering is a major part of life, would you know suffering so well?
If the concept of suffering did not exist, would suffering be so far flung? If suffering had not been ordained in the mind of man, where would it exist? Can suffering exist on its own?
Suffering is a weight upon you. You are perhaps suffering at this moment or you are just finished with a streak of it or you are bracing yourself for the next bout.
You do not believe in the possibility of life on earth without suffering. You may believe that suffering takes a breather now and then, but you strongly believe in its might. It is inevitable, you say.
Death of the body is inevitable, and you tie that to suffering, and therefore you believe that suffering is inevitable. You consider yourself practical. How practical is it really to suffer? What does suffering change? Why would anyone choose it? Who said it had to be tied to life? You say you do not choose suffering. You say it is foisted upon you. Yet where would it exist apart from your thought? Suffering is something that has to be adopted. It is not what you were born for or with.
Suffering is a state of mind. Who is responsible for the state of your mind? Who has authority over it? I know you think well-being and suffering are conditions outside you, and that you are their pawn. It certainly seems so to you. Yet, if things seem one way to you, can they not seem another?
Suffering isn't an incident that happens. Suffering is where you store the incident.
You package events of life. You wrap them this way or that. You put them in the cooler or you put them in the oven or you put them on the table top as a centerpiece. You make certain events the centerpiece of your life. Who makes you do this? What benefit does suffering give you? If you feel pain, must you in addition suffer for it? Unladen yourself of suffering. You do not have to be tied to it.
I agree with you that there is too much suffering in the world. Where We disagree is that I say you don't have to have it, and you say you do.
When you are cutting an apple, and you cut your finger, you don't think you have to suffer. You do not bemoan your cut. You don't think much about it. You know very well that it will heal. You divide wounds into major and minor and allocate suffering accordingly. Perhaps you can allocate differently.
At the same time as you expect to suffer in life, you are amazed when anything you don't want befalls. You rant and rail about it. You stamp your foot. You protest. "How could God do this! And how could God do this to me?" your heart cries.
It is inevitable that you will be healed from whatever has signaled you to suffer. The very temporariness of life on earth in a body attests to that.
If, at present, you do not believe that you can remove suffering from your life, is it possible that you can accept that you can make its stay shorter? If you cannot abolish suffering at this time, can you perhaps depend on it less?
The fact that it is impossible for the Truth of you to suffer gives you small comfort, I know, but, as much as you are able, let go of suffering. Anchor love instead.

Consider that you are swimming across an ocean. What matters is that you are swimming. You see the distant shore. You keep swimming. Otherwise, you get caught into perfecting your strokes. It matters not whether you dog-paddle, breast-stroke, go fast or go slow. It matters that you keep going.
Better not spend so much of your energy in gauging how you are doing. Your progress cannot really be measured. Having noted your destination, the rest is assured.
Of course, I realize that you will continue attempting to measure your progress nevertheless. You yearn to know how far you have swum and how close you are now. You fear that your destination eludes you moment to moment. But all your measurements are distractions.
You are not in a race with anyone or anything. You are not in a race with yourself. You are in life, and the thing to do in life is to live it. You cannot predict it. You cannot evaluate it. Of course, you can, you do, but what do your assessments have to do with anything?
You may measure a child's growth in inches, but measurement is one thing and growth another. Your measurements contribute not at all to the growth.
After the fact is after the fact.
When you reach shore, you will know it. No need to stop for repairs or new paint job.
You are mighty, and you are sailing a mighty sea. You have set your sails, and now you sail. You are ever coming closer to Heaven. What else do you need to know?
Beyond that, all the identifications are tweaks and pats of your merciless ego.
I say, "Come with Me." And you come. What equipment is needed? What preparation? What is there to pack, and why would you delay our voyage with details.
I say, "Come. Let's go." Would you delay Us?
I say, "Hold My hand." Why run to get your compass when you have My hand?
Our journey was started long before. It is ongoing. Why look back? What will you find that will speed Our journey? Looking back cannot even tell you accurately where you have been. Vision does not go backward.
What you need comes with you on its own. What you don't need you can leave behind. Counting your steps backwards or forwards does not help.
You keep trying to locate yourself. You want to pin yourself down and thumb-tack your progress on a map on the wall.
You are complete right now. You are a traveler who is rising. Or We can say you are a traveler who alights in the right spot.
You are exactly in the right spot now.
You spurt ahead exactly at the right moment.
Whatever seems to occur in your life, you are going forward. I am pulling you. What you do on your steam has little to do with it. Whatever your joys, whatever your troubles, whatever your speed, whatever your locomotive, you are spiraling to Me. Nothing will stop your spiral, and what can hasten it.
You grab the handrail where you are.
You swim another stroke.
Your ticket to Heaven has already been stamped on your hand.
You are all set.
You are all set. Think of what that means.
You are going full-blast ahead. There is no stopping you. The little detours along the way do not stop you. You are ever coming closer to Me. Coming closer to Me is all there is. Coming closer to Me is good enough. It will do you very well.
You will enter Our Oneness soon enough. Before you know it, you will have entered Heaven with all your heart and soul. Look to Heaven, where else?
